23 Vs. 33

I just had my 33rd birthday this weekend.

For those of you who are considering jaw surgery - but hesitating because you think you might be too old - you're NEVER too old.

The picture on the right was taken when I was 23. The picture on the left was taken on my 33rd birthday, just a couple of days ago.

I'm so glad I decided to get braces at age 30 and subsequently undergo jaw surgery. I'm not advocating doing it for purely cosmetic reasons. But, if there are cosmetic benefits in addition to medical ones - then why not?

Hi,

I just had upper jaw surgery 10 days ago. Moved up 3mm and forward 6mm.

I was just wondering what the movements of your upper jaw were?

I noticed my nose got wider and turned up. In short I don't like it. Until how long after you surgery did your nose settle on its final shape?

Thanks

I am so happy with the result!! It was definitely worth it, and I probably wouldn't have ever done it without the support and inspiration of you and all the other surgery bloggers! Thanks, kristen!! :)

Hi, Kristen,

I heard your story from Brandy. Your results were so good, so it strongly encouraged me to visit Dr Li although Im actually from midwest. Im going to visit him soon and may I ask you some questions so that I can be more prepared about it since its so costly for me to go to CA.

Simply drop me a line at shinianshinian2@gmail.com if you would like to help me out, I will highly appreciate it!!

Best,
Rachel

Hey Kristen,

I've been reading your blog for a little while now, and I absolutely love it! You look great after all that's happened :) I am looking to have orthognathic surgery as well, and I've started a blog to record my experience. Would you be interested in reading it? I just need a little bit of feedback on it... Thanks, and I hope you keep posting! :)

You look great how long did it take for your swelling to go down? I am on day 23 and the swelling is still pretty bad I have issues going anywhere. I just want to look and feel like myself. Did you ever feel your chin and lip agian. I did lower jaw surgey and the genio plastic as well so that so much for all the hope you gave me by posting this site.

Hi there, I stumble onto your blog last night while I was doing a little research on jaw surgery. I was supposed to have jaw surgery the first time I had braces which was 10 years ago but my parents felt a bit uncomfortable about it. Since I'm older now (I just turned 30 a few weeks ago) I decided to go ahead with it since every dentist I've gone to have told me I should get one. I have my consultation with an oral surgeon in about two weeks and is very nervous about the whole thing. Any who, I just wanted to let you know that I'm so grateful that I found your blog! The personal experience and information has really help calm me a little. I'm still nervous about it but at least I know what to expect. Thank you for sharing!

Yes, you now know what to expect this is truly great result. For me the procedure is really frightening. I'm going to have my jaw surgery as well on the next month at Quincy Dentist, Im maybe a bit nervous but I believe my dentist can manage it well.
