Why is it....

  • That white kids are rarely adopted by non-white parents, while Caucasian parents adopt black, Hispanic, and Asian kids all the time?
  • That Obama is referred to as the first "black" presidential candidate, when he's in fact, only half-black and half-white?
  • That more Asian women date outside of their race than Asian men?

Gah, what's up with all the spam comments lately?! i've been getting those too!

I've wondered myself about the Obama thing, too... I mean, if he had lighter skin and looked "whiter," would everything be different?

Ah, but these questions all fall into the "PC" category. At least the first two questions. What I really want to know is how did that idiot Bush get into the white house and literally single-handedly ruin this country in 8 years. When Bill left the white house, we actually had a surplus, do you remember that? So lets just hope that Obama gets into the white house, not b/c he is a person of color but b/c he may be our one hope! As for women dating men outside of their race/culture, can you shed light on that? M

All right, Kristen. Here are my guesses: 1) White people are still the majority, and there are more non-white children available for adoption than white children? Maybe non-white families who are in a position to adopt are fewer in number, and so feel they should concentrate their outreach to a similar/same culture? It's an interesting question, but it seems like your observation is true... 2) Anyone who looks black is treated black, and sometimes that's a disadvantage. Obama's had to deal with racism. He just has. Let him have his status as a black man. 3) Ok. I'm white, as you know, and I did date a Korean man who is HOT. (Hot, I say!) But, he was larger than me. You see where I'm going with this? I think men like women who are smaller than them, and women like men to be bigger than them, and Asian men tend to be smaller on average than men of other races. Also, I think this is a generational thing (has to do with immigration generation) but women of other races may seem a bit aggressive/domineering/big to early generation Asian men? Once you get out to 2nd, 3rd generation, I think culturally the differences begin to wash out a bit, and you see more interracial dating/marriage. I also think it depends on the nationality, too; I know a few Philipino men who are married to white women. What do you think? One or two of my Asian girlfriends have ruled out dating Asian men for reasons I cannot explain. Makes me sad.... Incidentally, it came out that my Korean friend dated me so he could say he dated a white girl...but he told me he could never marry a white girl. That made me sad, too. I learned a lot that year in college. Viva California! I think race relations is a fascinating topic!

And what about this?? I just thought of this: Asian women are not as afraid of dating outside of the preferences of their PARENTS, but Asian men are more reluctant to bring a non-Asian woman home to their families. BINGO! That's it.
